Le Voyage dans la Lune

Based on the novels of H.G. Wells and Jules Verne, Le Voyage dans la lune tells the tale of six brave astronomers that are launched, via giant cannon, to the moon.

Written and directed in 1902 by Georges Méliès, Le voyage dans la lune is the first science fiction film and features impressive special effects and animation for the period.

While Méliès intended to profit from the release of his film in the United States, Thomas Edison pirated the film and distributed it; Méliès eventually went bankrupt.

More than a hundred years after it's creation, La voyage dans la lune is still influential. In fact, the music video for The Smashing Pumpkins' song "Tonight, Tonight" bears great similarity to Méliès' film.

After all these years, this music video is still one of my favorites.

The other day I stumbled on The Submarines and their video for the song "Fire," which seems to draw inspiration from La voyage dans la lune as well.

I've got some wonderful post for you from my time here in Denver, this city is beautiful!!!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
